Na 40 jaar was het tijd om te kijken naar het houtwerk in de kuip van deze stalen schokker in Zoutkamp. Het hout was geplakt op het staal, maar water kruipt en er was roest ontstaan. 
Wij hebben een plan gemaakt voor nieuwe luikhoofden van roestvast staal met goten om te zorgen dat het water wegloopt. Het rvs wordt nu gezet en in elkaar gelast. In het nieuw jaar gaat de flex erin.

Als het staalwerk klaar is kan een begin worden gemaakt om de kuip weer met hout te bekleden. 

Rust between wood and steel. Together with the owner of this steel Dutch schokker yacht, we have come up with a plan to replace and improve the steelwork before rebuilding the woodwork in the cockpit. 

The steel men are busy, early next year we can start on the woodwork.

Twenty-one years ago we were painting the inside of Op Hoop van Zegen with lead primer, before insulating with Rockwool. 

Today we were doing it again aboard our workshop barge. 

Een-en-twintig jaar geleden hebben we de huid van OHvZ in de loodmenie gezet, voor het isoleren met steenwol. Vandaag weer gedaan; dit keer op de werkspits. 

Today we replaced two of the aluminium hatches with sheets of polycarbonate aboard the workshop barge, flooding the hold with light.

Next step, battens for the wall sheeting, or floorboards, depending on the weather and condensation. This was a great day, sunshine wind and low humidity. Could use a lot more days like today.

Vandaag hebben we twee aluminium luiken vervangen door polycarbonaat platen. Licht in het ruim. Morgen verder met grondhout, of met een houten vloer. Dit hangt af van de temperatuur en condensatie.

  
Twenty-two years ago we bought Op Hoop van Zegen. Amongst other things we inherited two hooks on a chain, we later learned that these were for lifting drums. 

Now with the crane on the workshop spits up and running we were able to use these hooks while emptying the hold. 

   
The lovely little luxe motor ‘Gudrun’ has  six windows in the rear cabin. 
Each barge has it’s own details and solutions so to avoid making mistakes before starting to saw the expensive Guariuba for these opening windows I will make a seventh one from bits of pine. 

  

Though the method of construction is the same, the result is surprisingly different, there being something about a piece of furniture made from solid wood that a plywood piece just doesn’t have. The work has to be done very precisely, which is why Claudia is working on this with her Festool tools and I am aboard a barge.
